Look what the Girl in Green, Wendy, sent me:
This is a photo she had taken of my drawings that were up in a show at Junc Gallery in Los Angeles back in 2006. It's fun to be reminded of these watercolors. The quail morel in the middle was my favorite. I had been painting at the table with my daughter when I accidentally dipped my paintbrush into her cup of water. She had been using glitter paints, so the morel became glittery, and it was a very lucky mistake! I don't think you can see the glitter in this image, but here it is nonetheless.
I've been obsessing over Camilla Engman's photos of collections here and here on her blog. This is my current collection, an endless amount of tiny cut-out paper pieces:
So, yikes, where have I been for a week? I've been battling a serious creative slump, and I haven't wanted to blog without having done new work. So I finally starting working on a new drawing. It's not done yet...
I felt pretty reluctant to be making more work along these lines. I've been wanting to start an entirely new body of work, and I've been dreaming of working on canvas with oil paint again, but with my broken toe these past few weeks, I haven't felt mobile enough to stretch and prime canvases. So it is back to paper, and back to the familiar, in hopes that working within the confines of what is familiar will lead to something new.
Finally, two tangential notes. Because we have a sense of humor in this house, the dog's favorite new sleeping companion is a stuffed skunk hand puppet.
And this is for my friend who asked if I ever make any instrument-based work.
Guitarshrooms; why not??
I think Jerry Garcia would have been delighted to see your Guitarshrooms!

Ha! I can't believe I didn't think of that. It should be called GratefulDeadShroom, or Garciashroom, or something...

maybe so you don't have to stretch anything you can go down to the hardware store and get some of the cast-off pieces they have from cutting boards to size for other customers?
then you just have to prime.
love that I found that photo...and that glittery quail...I am sure it is such fun painting with your daughter.
